Background
Lutheran Hope Cambodia Organization (LHCO), a new name of Life With Dignity (a localized NGO from the Lutheran World Federation) known as Angkar “L”, a name given by rural communities, works to promote human dignity for vulnerable communities in Cambodia. The organization began its work in 1979 through the Lutheran World Service (LWS) Cambodia (1979 -1992), a field program of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), which focused on emergency relief, demining, and resettlement. In 1993, the program was renamed the LWF Cambodia Programme (1993 – 2010) and shifted focus to supporting rural development. LWF Cambodia Programme was localized and registered with the Ministry of Interior (MoI) number 1641 ស.ជ. ណ, on 09 September 2010, with Cambodians taking on all management and leadership roles within the organization, Life With Dignity (LWD) was born. To comply with the new Law on Association and Non-Governmental Organization (LANGO), adopted by the National Assembly on 14 July 2015, LWD re-registered with the MoI and got a new license number 521 ស.ជ. ណ, on 19 March 2018. On 19 March 2024, LWD was officially renamed to LHCO.
