Building Stronger and Safer Communities Through Humanitarian Standards

The Lutheran Hope Cambodia Organization (LHCO) recently organized a one-day training on Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) and Safeguarding in Emergency Response for youth groups, primary school teachers, and Commune Committee for Disaster Management (CCDM) members from Kampong Trabaek, Peam Montear, and Kansaom Ak communes in Kampong Trabaek district, Prey Veng province.

A total of 38 participants (26 women) joined the training, including youth representatives, teachers, and local disaster management committee members.

The training aimed to:

• Strengthen the knowledge of key project stakeholders on the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) and Safeguarding in Emergency Response.
• Enhance participants’ commitment to applying humanitarian principles and safeguarding practices during emergencies and crisis response.

Throughout the training, participants actively engaged in discussions, group exercises, and practical learning sessions on humanitarian principles, safeguarding, accountability, and community-centered emergency response. The comparison between pre-test and post-test results demonstrated a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge and understanding of the training topics.

This training is one of the key activities under the Resilient and Eco-Youth-Led Initiative (REYI) Project, funded by the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission (FELM) for the period 2026–2029. The project aims to strengthen youth leadership and build resilient communities that are better prepared to respond to disasters and emergencies.
